Description: From Manassass to Appomattox (Philadelphia, J. B. Lippincott, 1896). 1st Ed/HB/8vo/690pp. With frontis portrait of Longstreet. The sought-after first edition of Confederate General Longstreet’s memoir of the Civil War. Interior is unusually clean and strong throughout. Expertly rebound to a high standard over red cloth to retain the original illustrated binding. Though this is fragmentary the cover, showing a hand drawing a sword, and spine are both significantly complete and attractive, presenting well on the shelf. Some rough cut pages and pencil underlining to the section dealing with Gettysburg - Longstreet famously disagreed with Lee during the battle and a former owner of the book seemed particularly drawn to that chapter. All things considered, a VG copy of the first edition of one of the rarer post-war memoirs.
