Description: Antique French Hunting Sword or Cuttoe. Elaborately mounted with agate guard and agate button on scabbard. Ebony grip with longitudinal fine grooves. Iron mounts. Early straight blade with “XXX” engraved in the central fuller on each side. Original leather scabbard in excellent condition. 30” overall length; blade is 24 1/4” long. Excellent condition except agate on back side of crossguard is chipped and missing as pictured. French hunting swords with agate guards were the highest quality and used from the late 1600s to the end of the 1700s. Please see photos for description and condition.
