Description: *NOTE TO EBAY - THESE BOXES ARE EMPTY AND DO NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED AMMUNITION COMPONENTS*Up for your consideration is a set of two empty reproduction M1911 .45 ACP 20 round ammunition cartons, with FRANKFORD ARSENAL labels made for the M1917 Revolvers in the 1920s, and marked on the top "This Package Contains 7 Revolver Clips". Model 1911 ball rounds were first manufactured at Frankford Arsenal starting in August 1911. Those rounds were the standard rounds used for both the M1911 automatic pistol as well as the M1917 .45 caliber double-action (DA) revolver. The M1917 was developed at the start of WWI to supplement the supply of M1911 pistols for American troops. However, since revolvers traditionally used rimmed cartridges, and the .45 ACP round was rimless, a "half-moon" clip wad developed that allowed the rimless cartridges to be used in the M1917 revolvers. During WWI, .45 ACP rounds were supplied under government contract for the revolvers in 24 round cartons already packed in clips. Then after WWI, with the end of the government contracts, Frankford Arsenal began supplying ammunition for the existing revolvers in 20 round cartons with loose clips placed inside. The label on that carton had printed on the top "This Package Contains 7 Revolver Clips" in order to differentiate it from the standard 20 round carton. Later, during WW2, ammunition for the M1917 revolvers once again came packed in cartons with loose clips included. Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 2 unassembled cartons with dividers and labels. The label has the unique notation "This Package Contains 7 Revolver Clips" just like my original. The cartons, dividers and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions.
