Description: This canvas print of Francisco Oller's 1864 oil painting, "El Estudiante," is in excellent condition. Never used. The canvas has no tears, folds or spots, has ever been framed or exposed to light. The original was exhibited in five museums from 1983-1984 ---two in Puerto Rico, the others in Washington, D.C., New York and Massachusetts. The actual painting, an oil on canvas, is at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, France. Oller's name is on the plate (See photo) BIOGRAPHY: Oller was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico in 1833 and died in 1917. He had a prolific career in Spain and France where he studied art before returning to Puerto Rico in 1880. He first studied art as a child in San Juan, but traveled to Madrid to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In the 1870's he was named court painter for Spain's King Amadeo. An impressionist, he painted still life, landscapes, portraits, historical events and realistic images of Puerto Rican life and rural workers.
