Its actions are carried out by its volunteers, committed to the relief of the population and the health and social support of the most vulnerable, during major crises as well as in everyday life. Among them, women have made a sense of themselves and have contributed greatly to the building of the association. Pioneers, innovative, often in the shadows, they played a decisive role in the construction of the identity of the French Red Cross. This anniversary year is an opportunity to pay tribute to them through three emblematic figures of a commitment that is going through the generations. Each of these women, in its field and in its time, plays a major role in the development of the association. Coralie Cahen (1832–1899) was one of those pioneers, hired from the first hour during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. In Metz besieged, which she refuses to leave, she organizes an ambulance reserved for the care of ordinary soldiers. She knows that, unlike officers, they are less easily received and treated at the home. Then, at the request of Leon Gambetta, she went to Vendôme to transform a high school into a hospital, where the wounded soldiers from both sides were treated. With the war over, she married the cause of the French prisoners still held in Germany. Going to the scene, she informs families about the fate of the detainees and obtains hundreds of releases. She will maintain her humanitarian commitment within the French Red Cross and other associations until his death. At the end of the War of 1870, the French Red Cross addressed the crucial issue of training nurses. Marie-Léonie Génin (1859–1947) devoted her life to it. In 1899, she was chosen by the association to head her first school-school clinic, in the XIVth arrondissement of Paris, which combined care with the population and the practical training of nurses. In 1908, she took the lead in the Poplar's hospital-school, designed by the association to be at the forefront of teaching and care, which she transformed during the Great War to receive wounded soldiers. Until her death, she trained several generations of nurses and social workers there, the passion for pedagogy pinned to the body. Marcelle Barry (1896-1989), in 1935, was one of the first air rescue pilots (IPSAs) trained by the French Red Cross. Appointed in 1940 team leader in charge of the repatriation of wounded for the army, she participated in the creation of the association's emergency teams in 1943. After the war, she took the lead in the mission seconded to the French Expeditionary Forces in the Far East. At the end of 1948, she went to the Middle East to organize relief for displaced persons from the Arab-Israeli conflict. Back in France in 1949, she was appointed director of the association's emergency department. Until her retirement in 1971, she coordinated and changed the association's arrangements for helping people in crisis situations.Specifications:Printing technique - OffsetFace value - 1.96Theme - Politics and Human SciencesType of physical product - Beautiful single stampsNature of the shipment - International letterType of gluing - GummedDestination of the shipment - InternationalMaximum weight - 20gLegal notices - Stamp: creation Sandrine Chimbaud from photo Marc Lerouge/Only France.frSheet outline: creation Sandrine ChimbaudAuthor - CHIMBAUD SandrineDate of issue - 10/21/2024Format - 40.85 x 30 mmPermanent validity - NoArea of validity - Valid for shipments to the whole world
