It is the result of a simplification of the rules of the Provençal game, its ancestor. Its name comes from the Provençal expression "tanned pens" meaning tanqué feet, i.e. planted on the ground. Initially a regional discipline, rooted in southern France, it was exported over the decades throughout France, then throughout France. France has 13 regional committees, 106 departmental committees and nearly 6,000 clubs affiliated to the French Federation of Provençal and Play, which includes almost 300,000 licensees. Pétanque has long been a hobby before becoming a sport in its own right for those who compete. France, the creator of the petanque, is also the world's first nation both in terms of the number of its followers and by the titles of world champion gleaned by the three-colour teams. Since 1988, France has won 21 gold medals in the men's World Championships in 28 editions. To date, the pétanque has conquered more than 100 countries on all continents. Some Asian countries, in particular, are very fond of petanque. Increasingly popular, petanque benefits from television broadcasts in the same way as other major sports. It is for many tour operators a symbol of France since it is often included in the programme of activities of foreign tourists. More than a sport or leisure, it is an integral part of French culture and contributes to the influence of France in the world.Specifications:Printing technique - OffsetFace value - 1.96Theme - SportsType of physical product - Beautiful single stampsNature of sending - International letterType of bonding - GummedShipment destination - InternationalMaximum weight - 20gLegal notices - DOZ creationAuthor - DOZIssue date - 07/08/2024Format - 30 x 40.85 mmNumber of stamps per presentation - 1Permanent validity - NoValidity area - Valid for shipments to anywhere in the world
