The Model 1080 can be used for other projects besides sharpening such as, cleaning, sanding, carvlng, polishing, and shaping of wood, plastic, or metal. lt is perlect for those inside edges that are hard to sharpen using other methods. The Model 1080 Abrasive Belt Grinder is a heavy duty, rugged grinder built to industrial standards for years of continuous use. We recommend that you read through the assembly and operating instructions (a copy is included) before attempting to use your machine. The working parts of this Foley/Belsaw Model 1080 Abrasive Belt Grinder were made by Mead Industries, who invented the Band Sander. All other manufacturers like Delta Rockwell, Sears, Foley/Belsaw, etc manufacture their belt sanders under license from Mead. I have refurbished over a dozen of these sander/grinders including Delta/Rockwell, Sears Craftsman, and others. In this process, I’ve tracked down & located suppliers of OEM & replacement parts whenever possible. Other parts I have remanufactured. This Belt Grinder is in all original condition except the following items I have replaced, refurbished, or remanufactured: • I have resurfaced the machine table with an 11 gauge, cold rolled, machined steel plate - a typical replacement for wore, rusted, or pitted cast iron machine tables 40+ years old. • I have remanufactured the sanding belt platen because the original was worn & pitted. It matches the original exactly, including the relief bevels in the back that allow for saw tooth & blade sharpening (I’ve done this before for my own personal Foley-Belsaw & Mead Bandsander equipment. • I also replaced the two rear leveling feet with anti-vibration leveling feet, • I replaced the original front rubber feet with new OEM molded and bonded rubber feet. • All bearings including the Oilite idler bearing are in good condition, and I resaturated the Oilite bearings with 20 Wt oil as per specifications. Unlike some other recent listing for Foley/Belsaw Model 1080 Abrasive Belt Grinders on eBay, this one 100% complete (no parts missing), & in original condition except for the reconditioned machine table as noted above.
