De Limiers” (until 1758); “In Utrecht, by Sr. Etienne-Elie Peuch”, then “In Utrecht, by Father and Master Claude-Isaac Peuch”; from 1782, by Alexandre des Essarts (GH, p. 172), then Gilbal: “In Utrecht, Chés LF de Gilbal, Author of the Gazette” (1784). The NI are printed “In Utrecht, at Detune, with Exclusive Privilege”. The Utrecht Gazette is distributed in all the major cities of Holland, as well as in England, Austria and France; the NI are distributed in France in all major cities by the General Office “exploiting the Privilege of Foreign Gazettes” (July 30). 1787, p. 483). Founder(s), director(s), collaborator(s), contributor(s) Nicolas CHEVALIER (1710-1720); François JANISSON, or Janiçon (1720-1724); Henri-Philippe de LIMIERS, father (1724-1728) and son (1728-1758); Etienne-Elie PEUCH, then Claude-Isaac PEUCH (1758-1782); Alexandre DES ESSARTS (1782); LF de GILBAL (1782-1785); DETUNE (1786-1787). Content, sections, areas of interest, tables The GU, like all major Dutch gazettes, presents bulletins from different European countries; it opens little by little and slowly to Turkey, to “Barbarism” (Tunis); each issue ends with news from the Netherlands, and sometimes from the city of Utrecht (news from the day before). It is most often content to reproduce the bulletins sent to it by its correspondents or by the ministries, without the editor personally intervening. Diplomatic or military news and chronicles from the royal courts have a very official character. At the end of the issue, on approximately half a page, there are numerous and precise announcements of sales of collections, books and paintings. The supplements are generally devoted to diplomatic documents or letters from leading figures. Peuch gives a little more space to news items and cultural life (archaeology). Gilbal introduces more personal and animated story elements into the Gazette; he multiplies the news items of a sensitive and moral nature. This narrative trend is reinforced with Detune, which gives a large place to trials and major affairs of the time (Collier affair, Cagliostro's legal memoirs); politics also takes on a certain importance, notably with the bulletins from New York, which describe the establishment of the new administration.
