Almost all of them are made from the following two ingredients, which are mineral oil and beeswax. Both are food safe. The reason some are cheaper than others....is because there is a distinct difference in price between beeswax and mineral oil. Mineral oil is less expensive. Therefore, when you see a product that is liquid, it is mostly mineral oil....which you can buy a most drugstores. Frankly, you can use mineral oil alone. But, it wears off fairly quickly and you have to reapply all the time. Therefore if you take a lot of mineral oil and a little beeswax ….. melt it all into a liquid form and then mix it all together to make a board butter, then it doesn’t cost you that much and you can sell it for cheaper. The problem is that it doesn’t last as long, nor does it really protect the boards the way beeswax does. So, unless you’re going to put mineral oil on your board every month, which most people don’t want to do, it is better to get something with beeswax in it. I included a picture of a cutting board with my wax on it and you will see a thin layer of wax on the top and that will protect your board from water etc. I mix my potion up with 40-50% beeswax….Nobody else does that. I have asked. The closest I ever found was 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part beeswax… . That seller actually sells their wax for more than i do. I have no overhead cost because I do this my house and I use half of it for my own boards. I just sell a little bit off since I’m already making a batch. if you want to increase the amount of wax i send you, you could easily melt it down.....add another 2-6 ounces of mineral oil and you will have between 4-8 ozs of wax that still has more wax than 90% of the items being sold by others. it is just a matter of preference. NOTE....IF YOU WANT TO MELT IT DOWN....LEAVE IT IN THE SUN OR USE A CROCKPOT....DONT THROW IT IN A POT OVER AN OPEN FLAME...IT WILL BURN UP. MELT IT SLOWLY. Mine has the consistency of a soft candle. It is best used if you place it in some warm/hot water for a few minutes and then spread on your board. A SMALL AMOUNT GOES A LOOOOOOONG WAY.
