Description: Rare Josiah Wedgwood Black Basalt Neoclassical Tray 18th-19th cent.. Scarce underplate or tray measuring approximately 10 x 8.5 inches. With a variety of vivid neoclassical scenery to border interspersed with floral roundels. In Wedgwood’s black basalt throughout bearing early impressed “WEDGWOOD” and a potter’s mark, dating this to the late 18th-early 19th century. Old inventory tag to underside. Perhaps once associated with one of the firm’s famous ewers or vases designed by Flaxman- have not seen a form of this type. In excellent estate condition with no losses or restorations, just age appropriate dust/dirt to crevices. Please ask any questions- this will be packed securely.
