Description: Frederick (Fid) Bertrand Harnack RSMA (1897-1983). Marine artist and illustrator, who lived most of his life on Mersea Island. He was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1949, exhibited at the Royal Academy and other major galleries. Fid was associated with the artist Arthur Briscoe (1873-1943), with whom he sailed and sketched with. I have acquired a body of work by Fid Harnack, consisting of watercolour sketches and drawings. These works were often done quickly while out on the water and later used as reference for larger paintings. The collection also contains other related ephemera; photographic images of Fid, sailboats and seascapes, together with letters of correspondence and exhibition programs. The last two images detail a part of the whole collection and a photo of Fid in his studio. This listing is for a single paper only, as detailed below. Studies of sailboats and seascapes on wove paper with blue grid lines. Drawings to both sides. The paper is in reasonable/used condition. There is light handling,/creases, age toning, slightly soiled surface, staining and other minor marks/blemishes. Unsigned, dated 29.9.49 Paper measures 19.7cm x 33cm.
