Description: Early original 8 x 10 inch vintage portrait of famed French aerialist star Vera Kimris. The aerial act known as The Kimris Duo was originally formed in the 1930s by Henri Kimris and his wife, Lee Wallenda (of the "Flying Wallenda" high wire family). They performed a variety of acts with a number of circuses including RINGLING BROS and SHRINE CIRCUS Vera was married to Henri's brother Leon, and replaced him when he was injured in a fall. She worked in the act approximately 6 years and left the act after Leon's death. French Aerial Stars Feature Shrine Circus Les Kimris, French aerial stars who will perform ninety feet in the air at Jaffa Shrine circus, Jaffa mosque, Broad avenue and Twenty- second street, during the week, of March 22 to 25, have attained an enviable reputation since coming to this country a few years ago. They were the featured attraction at the opening of the 1939 world's fair, an honor sought by dozens of aerial acts. Previously they were featured in Billy Rose's production of "Jumbo" and during the past year have appeared at the Radio City Music Hall and Roxy Theatre in New York. The rigging used by Les Kimris is unique as it supports a miniature airplane from which a trapeze is suspended 45 feet above the ground. At the opposite end of the rigging another trapeze."is suspended and the whole rigging revolves rapidly as the Kimris present their aerial gymnastics. The climax of the whole performance comes when Vera Kimris and her partner hang by their toes from the trapezes as the rigging continues to move. No net is used during the performance. The Kimris have only lately perfected hanging from the revolving rigging by one foot. Both of them accomplish this simultaneously at a given signal. Vera Kimris has a reputation throughout the amusement world for being the most beautiful of all aerial stars, a recognition that is justly earned. Photograph measures 8 x 10 inches and is in excellent condition with no bends, tears, or creases and is very sharp and has light sepia tones with good contrast and clarity. New York photographers signature at bottom right. Back is clean with no writing Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks.
