Description: Name: Viaphacops bomifrons(?) Age: Lower Devonian Formation: Bois D'Arc Formation Location: Coal County, Oklahoma Size: Trilobite is almost 2" straight line, 2.4" along curve! This is a gigantic specimen of Viaphacops bomifrons(?) from the Lower Devonian of Oklahoma. This hard-to-find trilobite was found by Eugene Thomas over 20 years ago. This type of trilobite is differentiated from Kainops by having way fewer facets in the eyes. This striking specimen is very well articulated, extremely inflated and 3-D, and exhibits fine detail. Both small compound eyes of the trilobite are intact - the individual facets are easily seen. The thick-shelled, caramel-colored trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The impressive bug is wonderfully showcased on the large block of sculpted marlstone. This is a very large, very collectible example of this rare small-eyed Phacopid trilobite from the Black Cat Mountain area.A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this item.
