In the mid 80's the Everly Bros. might have been thought just as another nostaglia act playing county fairs and trying to get by. BUT! Everly Bros. 50's and 60's records influenced every one from Bob Dylan to Beatles to each two part harmony after. They were beloved, but somewhat forgotten until Paul McCartney wrote a minor '84 hit for them, "Wings of a Nightengale". That led to this underappreciated classic, "Born Yesterday". Produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO, the songs include covers of contempory writers and bands such as Dire Straits, choice songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and new ones written by themselves. Song selections fit Don and Phil like a iron fist in a velvet glove. The harmonies of Everly Bros. now have an older, wistful, longing and it sounds achingly bittersweet.
