Description: Original oil painting on canvas by Dutch painter Theodorus Ter Weeme (1877-1955). The painting depicts a composition of the three themes this artist most favored; a still life, an interior and a nude figure. This painting is signed in the lower right and dated 1915 by the artist, it measures 22 x 16 inches, 25 x 18 1/2 with the frame. There is an area on the reverse in the lower left that has been reinforced with netting to repair a small tear and some inpainting done to mask it. The frame joints are a bit loose and the painting's varnish has yellowed with age, it would brighten considerably with a cleaning. It is otherwise in fine condition and in a period antique solid oak frame. Theodorus (Theo) ter Weeme (Dutch, 1868-1943) studied of the Drawing School for Art Crafts in Amsterdam under the direction of J. Visser and of the Rijksakademie under the direction of A. Allebé, C. L. Dake, R. Stang and F. K. A. C. Leenhoff. Known for painting interiors, figures and still lifes, Ter Weeme was a member of the art associations "Arti et Amicitiae" in Arnhem and "Vereeniging Sint Lucas" in Amsterdam. He is known to have exhibited in both Arnhem and Amsterdam, but works by this artist are not at all common.
