The Alfred Mainzer name and New York publishing address commonly found on these cards do not appear on this European issue of Eugen Hartung's original artwork. This is the first of three versions of this scene illustrated by Hartung, preceding the later issues of Mainzer card catalog numbers 4923 and 4958, in which the dogs seen here doing the heavy lifting have been replaced by cats. Mainzer 4958 was renumbered in the 1970s as Mainzer card catalog number 4858, and reissued in the 1980s in the "Printed in Spain" series as Mainzer card catalog number 4758. Condition is very good.
