Description: Life-sized etched copy of an engraving by Giulio CAMPAGNOLA The Penance of Saint John Chrysostom. Campagnola's original plate of c. 1500 was itself a copy in reverse of Dürer's 1490s engraving of the same subject. One of only 40 impressions printed from the copper plate in black ink on vèlin de Madagascar in 1928. After almost a century, this accurate etched copy remains in outstanding condition; minor remnants of mounting on back at top corners. The imprint of the copper etching plate on the back of this sheet is still sharp and clean. Please see photos. Platemarks: 7.1 x 4.7 inches; sheet: 16.75 x 12.25 inches. Shipped in archival glassine in a heavy-duty tube. Thank you for looking at my lot. I hope you’ll consider checking out my other listings, and enjoy your day!
