Description: This Ertl 1994 limited edition Kerr-McGee Douglas DC-3 Company die cast 1/72 scale replica plane comes with a display stand, in its original box. The plane and stand are in very good condition. The box has signs of age and storage wear. Purchased from a local auction. I’m not the original owner and I don’t know anything about it’s history. The paper appears to have yellowed from age. Still has its collector certificate. This Douglas DC-3 is a die- cast replica of the original aircraft, Serial # 42-92838, owned and operated by Kerr- McGhee from August 1, 1946, until April 30, 1976. This DC-3 was put into passenger service as Kerr- McGhee’s first corporate airplane in October 1946, at which time the airplanes log reflected 1,550 hours of flying time since it’s construction on March 5, 1944 at Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Ok. In 1963, Kerr- McGhee modified the airplane to serve as a mineral exploration survey aircraft, but returned it to corporate passenger service in 1965. From 1968 until 1976, it was again used as a survey aircraft. Kerr-McGhee donated the DC-3, after and impressive 18,000 hours of service, to the State Fair of Oklahoma in April 1976. The 18,000 hours of logged flying time of the Kerr- McGhee DC-3 are equivalent to: Two years in the air 5.75 round trips to the moon 14 sets of engines 1.6 million gallons of fuel 2,880,000 air miles 115 times around the equator 110 sets of tires 5000 spark plugs Pictures are part of the description.
