I would like to rectify this problem by summarizing three of Dr. Fromm's key contributions to sociological theory, in particular: (1) his categories of humanistic and authoritarian religion, (2) his theory of social character, and (3) his mechanisms of escape or the psychological tools people use to escape their freedom to choose. The first contribution pertains mainly to the scientific, non-theological study of religion, while the other two pertain to sociological theory, in general. author bio : Under the mentorship of Prof. Rudolf J. Siebert (b. 1927), Dr. Jensen earned his Masters in Comparative Religion and, in 2015, his doctorate in Sociology from Western Michigan University. His masters degree gave him a working knowledge of Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. His doctorate allowed him to specialize in sociological theory, the sociology of religion, the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, and, in particular, the works of Erich Fromm (1900-1980).
