Description: From a local estate auction: this is a beautiful banquet-sized tablecloth that measures a huge 122" long by 67" wide. This is decorated with lots and lots of punto tirato lace, tan embroidery, and laddering. Because of its enormous size I cannot show the whole cloth on my table, so I've photographed it folded in half. My surmise is that this was made in the East - some of the flowers are shaped like lotus blossoms. This has an elaborate inner field measuring about 70" long by 15" wide defined with lines of laddering or punto tirato, and swags of tan floral embroidery, and there is also a perimeter band with similar decoration. The punto tirato emblems at the corners of the inner field are huge, measuring about 15" long. All around the edges there are triple lines of laddering, and this is the problem: there is significant damage to the laddered edge at the corners and other places along the edge, as shown in the last several photos. Several corners have a small piece of backing fabric attached to stabilize them, as shown. I have laundered and pressed this, and found the fabric to be sound - no dry rot, no brittleness. It surprises me that anyone would buy vintage/antique linens that are unwashed: fabric can have dry rot or issues that do not show until laundered. And ironing gives me a chance to evaluate the condition carefully. I want you to understand that there is significant damage around the edges, but that there is a great deal of beauty left. There is so much fabric here to reuse in creative ways, and it still looks beautiful as a tablecloth.
