English Benedictine monk Richard Kellawe was elected as a bishop of Durham on March 31, 1311 and served in this capacity until his death on 9 October, 1316. Coins struck under his authority are known to have a mark as a crozier-end on one of the arms of the reverse cross. In the 19th century, a grave identified as his was excavated in the Durham Cathedral Chapter House. He was the last Benedictine monk to ascend the Episcopal throne.
