You, lift up the needle and pull it over to the record. After you take the little plastic cap off the needle which protects the needle. It did play the record the record was scratched, so I have no idea how good it will play. You’ll need to try a better record it has a plastic protector over the needle for protection that you just slide off and on. the CD player worked. We did test one cd we did not test the cassette player **** we did Test radio which worked. This is sold as is if you have any questions please ask before your purchase.
