Description: Original amateur b&w snapshot silver gelatin print dated 1962. Printed on Kodak Velox paper. Print is 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" Very nicely composed image. This assumed amateur photographer had some talent, also shown in other samples of his work that I have had in my collection. The life of the steamship in the distance only a few years later ended after being beached, like the old hulk resting on the floating dry dock. This photo taken looking north over Elliot Bay just west of Harbor Island. In the background you can see the former Mosquito Fleet steamship Vashona after it was renamed the Sightseer buy its owner Gray Line Tours. The Gray Line Sightseer was out of service by 1963. The right foreground shows a wood dry dock holding an ancient wood hull sail boat in a very distressed condition. Our photographer was standing west of Harbor Island and the West Waterway. The old Nettleton Mill would have been to his left. The photographer captured a few images in this immediate area on the same roll of film, which helped identify the location. I have included a 1949 map image to better describe the area. Note the word "Tanks" on map, he was standing opposite the tanks on the right side of the small water inlet. This area today has been filled in and is a now a shipping container yard. Photo is in excellent condition.
