His work focuses attention on faces. Faces of peasants and black women, in short, on anonymous village faces. But, in the architecture of these heads, in the vigor of their lines, in the textures and qualities, a marked abstract influence is implied, although not always. He achieves true transparencies with convoluted lines.Those suggestive crossings awaken and animate his face, managing to convey to us the erection that they make their way through the tangle of the tropical jungle.
