Description: ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1970s insignia lot from Toa Domestic Airlines (TDA), a Japanese company that resulted from a merger in 1971 and then changed its name to Japan Air System in 1988. The lot includes two bullion wings, a pin, two name tags, two name plates and four bullion shoulder tabs. The wings each show two sidewise gulls at the center of a laurel wreath. These items belonged to a D. Michaelis, whose name is listed in both English and Japanese on the name tags and plates. We also have a captian's hat that was owned by Michaelis for sale separately: please see link at the bottom of this page for information VINTAGE: Circa early 1970s. SIZE: Wings: approximately 1-1/16" height and 3-15/16" width; tabs: approximately 1-3/4" in height and 2-5/16" in width; name tags: approximately 13/16" in height and 1-13/16" in width; name plates: approximately 15/16" in height and 4-11/16" in length. MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wings: wool embroidered in bullion threads with paper backing; tabs: cotton with bullion tape; name tags and plates: plastic (tags have metal fasteners and printed paper inserts). ATTACHMENT: Name tags: one has horizontal safety pin and one has clip. MARKINGS: N/A. ITEM NOTES: This is from an airline collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. The wings have moderate tarnish on the bullion and some loose threads and the tabs have light tarnish on tape.
