Description: D.W. Bruntons Pocket Transit Compass with (what else) a Gfeller Leather Case. Nothing says "I am a geologist" than owning a Brunton transit... I have used this thing since college and, as a fading into retirement geologist, am hoping this lands in the lap of some baby geologist in college headed to field camp. Bruntons are built solid and will survive several career's worth of abuse. This one shows the scars of a career but it is still solid and will survive whatever you toss at it (um, except dropping a rock core on the mirror). The mirror ain't gonna survive that one. Ask me why I know.... In any case, this one was sent back to Brunton a few years ago to have it recalibrated, the needle damper replaced and a new mirror installed to address one of my more inept moves.... It is serial number 105898 which means it was built sometime between 1972 and 1985. I am going with it being built in about 1980 as that is when I purchased it for field camp. Good luck and I suspect whoever buys this thing will be selling it when their career is fading into retirement as well... If you are a baby geologist - take a look at my other listings as I have a bunch of low tech stuff for sale that you will find useful. Sometimes, close enough is all we need.
