Description: BASEBALL 1900-1918 “The Glory of Their Times”Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVDBased on the book by Lawrence Ritter, the B & W film “The Glory of Their Times” is the story of the early days of baseball (1900-1918) from the turn of the century up to the end of the Red Sox Babe Ruth era. It was known as “the quiet time”, when pitchers pitched complete game shutouts, hitters smacked tobacco-blackened dead balls for triples, and led the league in home runs with season totals of 6 or 10 or 19. Ty Cobb won the batting title 12 out of 13 straight years – and hit .371 in the one year he didn’t win it! It was the time of the early baseball legends, such as Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, Tris Speaker, Chief Bender, “Wahoo” Sam Crawford and managers John McGraw and Connie Mack. On this DVD, you’ll see still pictures of them all, as well as hear the actual voices of Hans Lobert, Chief Meyers, Fred Snodgrass, Harry Hooper, Sam Jones, Smokey Joe Wood, Rube Marquard, Ed Roush, George Gibson and Ty Cobb’s roommate Sam Crawford as they describe those days and tell stories of these legendary baseball players and personalities of over a hundred years ago!
