Description: Fortress also known as Fortresse starring Rachel Ward, Sean Garlick, Elaine Cusick and directed by Arch Nicholson. The Story: For one teacher and nine children, the lesson of the day is kill or be killed. In the outback of Australia, a school teacher and her students are kidnapped by four masked men and held for ransom. They are then led on a unwilling adventure that tests their survival skills and transforms them prematurely into adults. Comment: Loosely based on the Faraday School kidnapping of 1972, the story pits a gang of kidnappers against a very strong-willed teacher and her class of not-so-innocent female students. In the real life kidnapping, the Prime Minister of Australia agreed to pay the ransom, but the kidnapping gang couldn't find the ransom pick-up point. Meanwhile, the teacher and students escaped their captors and made it to safety. Heavily armed Victoria police were called in and captured the kidnappers after an extensive manhunt. Mary Gibbs, the teacher, was awarded a King George VI Medal for her bravery. This movie version takes some liberties with the story but will keep you guessing to the very end. Per the label, the film has 90 minute running time, English 2.0 audio and optional Spanish subtitles. The screen aspect ratio is 16:9. New, factory sealed disc, case and label from the HBO Archive Collection supplied on recorded media. This DVD disc is NTSC format - designed to play on DVD players in North America.
