Description: This is a Ducks Unlimited Special Edition Canvasback Drake. It was made by John Gewerth and has his branded signature on the bottom. It also has a medallion that has the D.U. Logo duck head, the words, Special Edition, and the date 2002-2003. It is a bit larger than life size, measuring 15 inches from beak to tail. It is 7.5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide, and weighs just over 3 pounds. John Gewerth is well known for his beautiful carvings of decoys and this one reflects his carving and painting skill. It would have elicited heated bidding at a Ducks Unlimited Auction, likely selling for over $300.00. It is in near perfect condition but does have a few tiny nicks and a small dent on the top of the head. (Visible in the photo.) If you are familiar with Tom Taber, this one resembles some of his canvasback carvings, also very well done. This guy would make a treasured addition to any collection of Gewerth Decoys and a memorable gift to anyone having pursued one of these most beautiful waterfowl species in the field.
