Description: Douglas fir saplings that have self seeded on our organic property in SW Washington. At the end of their 1st year they are potted up for a season. Minimal resources are used to grow these beauties to lessen our impact. We live over 100 miles away from any major metropolitan areas and all that pollution! Trees are healthy and clean. Douglas firs are stately trees that will grow at a rate of 1-2 feet per year after about the 5th year. Trees are sent bareroot, so please keep an eye out for your trees arrival. Just prior to shipping, trees are removed from pots, lose soil gently falls away, and wrapped in forest moss. Plants with great root systems, they are not roots strangled in pots that are too small. Plant or pot up upon arrival. Pacific or Coastal Douglas fir need rich, well draining soil. They will not tolerate waterlogged soil. They can grow well over 100 feet tall. Excellent statement tree. Acidic to Neutral rich soil. Prefers areas with wet, cool winters and dry summers. Zones 6-9. Sun or part shade, prefers full sun. Shade intolerant. Well draining soil Water in dry periods during summer. Can grow over 100 feet and live hundreds of years. Saplings need extra care until established. 2-3rd year are 8-14 in height.
