The flat surface of the plate is decorated. Which leaves a nice white border effect around the picture, ( Like Framed Art)This way it doesn't have to compete with your wall color. Each plate has a vinyl protective covering over picture making it very durable. Can be cleaned with damp cloth. Please note: Not all plate covers may not have all the screws due to picture placement. They will still secure to wall.
