Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) DORKING: FROM ABOVE THE STATION. Dorking is beautifully situated in one of the valleys of the loveliest part of the county of Surrey. It is surrounded by some of the most exquisite and typical English scenery, Box Hill and Leith Hill being prominent features in the landscape. In coaching days it was an important stage on the road from the south coast to London, and one of its inns, the "Old King's Head," was regarded as the original of that "Marquis of Granby" immortalised by Sam Weller and the "Shepherd." The church of St. Martin's is a fine building, but new, with a steeple 210 feet in height some of the bells are dated 166. Dorking has given its name to the finest English breed of table fowls, distinguished by having a double toe behind the foot, and which are believed to have been introduced by the Romans.
