Striebel (artist). The Dixie Dugan cinuc strip began in 1929 with Dixie as a showgirl/actress with her look based on actress Louise Brooks. Eventually Dixie left the bright lights behind, returned to her hometown and worked at a variety of jobs while looking for romance and fun. The strip was always fashion conscious, and many of Dixie's (and her best friend Mickie) clothing designs were suggested by readers. In this daily, titled "Showcase" in pencil above the art, Dixie (appearing in 4/5 panels) chats with Ma and Pa Dugan, trying to decide how best to display Ma's dresses for a fashion showcase. A model would certain make a better presentation than a mannequin. Pa, get on it right away...find us a model and some wigs. Wonderfully rendered daily in Striebel's realistic style. Great close-up of the always beautiful Dixie in the 4th panel. MA Condition: -The art is in excellent overall condition. Folded in half through gutter between 2nd and 3rd panels (probably when originally mailed to the syndicate). Tack holes to corners. Minor age/handling wear. Pencil notes to reverse.
