Desert Magazine was founded, edited and published from 1937 to 1958 by Randall Henderson (1888–1970). New editors followed until the magazine closed print publication in 1985. The magazine focused on the desert country of the Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico, and covered a broad range of desert subjects including: regional travel and exploration; the visual arts of painting, drawing, and photography; prose and literature; cultural history; prospecting and mining; natural history including geology, wildlife, and flora; river running, and lifestyle–human interest stories. The printed magazines are now considered collector's items and can be found, but for a premium. This collection covers the known issues published from 1961 through its close in 1985. Also note that during its later years, it was published infrequently and at low volumes, so some of the issues during its later years are not known to exist. Years later it got rotten and subsequently discarded. Now the Son of the man who originally built it from the magazine plans in his wood shop in Milwaukie, Oregon works with me and he helped his Dad build it in 1958. We decided to search for the plans and if we found them; I (an engineer) would upgrade it for two adults and build it.
