Very Nice Pre Owned ConditionUnderside of oval casserole is incised 16-B , 18, A, FE, BELGIUM and it is also stamped Descoware Made in Belgium.This measures 8.75 from handle to handle x 5.75" wide x 2.75" tall.Remarkable color with deep red sliding into deep orange.Interior is solid white enamel with no stains, chips or damage.While I have found several pieces of this rare pattern over the years, I have been storing this in hopes of finding a small oval flameware lid that it would fit but each year my chances of success dwindle as these are harder and harder to find.Hoping someone is looking for this small casserole to complete a piece in their collection. No Interior Crazing or Hard Water Deposits Absolutely Clean In / Out This vintage small casserole looks to be 50's-60's from Belgium. Descoware enamelware (enamel over cast iron) brand of cookware that was manufactured in Belgium beginning in the mid-1940s. The Belgium company was forced to go out of business and stopped manufacturing this brand of cookware in the 1970s. Le Creuset bought the Descoware patents. Therefore, any piece of Descoware that is still in use today is older than 45 years. This design was not one of the most popular color back in the day so these pots are harder to come by. The color is really remarkable, white interior with orange and red flame colored outer design, very retro! I also have a Descoware Maple 9.5" skillet without lid and handle which is in great used condition on auction. I remember the famous Marilyn Monroe SOTHEBYS auction held years ago when her set of similar pans fetched huge figures. Many pictures included. Same quality as the pricy Le Creuset pans made in France. They are easy care and retain their beauty for years. A favorite of fine cooks the world over. The company was originally called Bruxelles Ware, but later changed its name to Descoware, coming from the US name of the company, the D.E. Sanford Company. The unique name, Descoware, is an acronym forged from the name of the company: D-E-S-CO. The Descoware company had some steep competition during the late 1960's and 1970's. Le Creuset®, a French brand, was being aggressively marketed with new designs each year. Eventually, after losing huge amounts of money, the Belgium company was forced to go out of business and stopped manufacturing this brand of cookware in the 1970s. Le Creuset bought the Descoware patents. However, Le Creuset adapted the patents for their own line of cookware, and within a short period, "real Descoware" was no longer.
