They got together in 1979 after releasing their first album ( Música moderna , 1980) of some scope within the framework of the so-called Movida madrileña , and after restructuring their line-up, they began a successful career with successive albums during the 1980s ( La ley del desierto/La ley del mar , De un país en llamas and La canción de Juan Perro ). If the first two delved into various influences present in contemporary European music, especially Anglo-Saxon, the group gradually began a path towards Latin roots and musical structures which gave rise to La canción de Juan Perro , one of the founding albums of what later came to be called Latin rock . The beginning of the 1990s brought their last two albums ( Veneno en la piel and Tierra para bailar ), until their dissolution in 1992. In 2012, journalist and music critic Jesús Ordovás defined them as "the most important and influential rock group in the recent history of Spanish pop music." On other occasions, Radio Futura has been referred to as the "creative pinnacle of the Movida.The success of “La ley del Desierto / La Ley del Mar” (Ariola, 1984) allowed Radio Futura to consolidate itself , gain confidence and continue to delve deeper into a personal and original rock , with Latin, funk and soul overtones. On this occasion they decided to travel to London to record the new album, with which they intended to take a step forward in their personal sound, which integrates influences ranging from Talking Heads to David Bowie or John Cale, while still maintaining their own character. The idea was to make a much more elaborate and baroque work, and so they left the production in the hands of Duncan Bridgeman and Jo Dworniak, who had been members of the white funk groups Shake Shake and I Level.Third album by Radio Futura, made from various travel notes throughout 1982/84. With a great production carried out in London between the months of February and March 1985, they manufacture a record full of metallic blows, dark sound, recreating disturbing and mysterious atmospheres; very convincing voices by Santiago Auserón on some uncomprehensible texts, often cryptic, where there is room for various circumstances, depending on the moment. For example, we can discover with some ease that deep Spain that gave so many verses to both Antonio Machado and Federico García Lorca; I refer to El Tonto Simón, there are nightmare passages: La Vida En La Frontera , El Viento De África or Han Caído Los Dos, situations and people trapped in dreams, miseries, anxieties, in the end the everyday things of the human being, but to the rhythm of rock, funk or soul. All well elaborated and constructed. There is no shortage of urban times in that great city that swallows you up as if you were a mouse ant, The Inner City. Of course, rock music in Spain is far from having the quality that Radio Futura offers. Any album, 3 decades after its release, is fresh and many of its songs are still relevant because of what they say, sometimes dreamlike and cryptic, sometimes direct. At that time we were used to listening to hard-hitting rock or lyrics written by and for infants, so insipid that they were an insult to any average intelligence. It is not about being doctrinal, but at least a band that is worth its salt should differentiate itself from the summer and street parties. The LP contains curious parts, from No Tocarte which opens the album, it seems unbelievable but in its initial context it is a pasodoble that they turned inside out. Once again, and it will be the general tone of the work, Enrique Sierra's guitars in a state of grace. Several of the songs will become, as it happened with La Ley Del Desierto/ La Ley Del Mar, classics and unavoidable in their live performances. From the direct rock of the first song; to the dark sound, enveloping in mist and in a funk key like La Ciudad Interior , which is also the first single released from this album; or the enigmatic Las Líneas De La Mano. The sound with the fusion of rock, that fusion that makes them unique, they present us with that Spain of plateau, interior, sheltered from winds and storms, far from the sea, in the magnificent El Tonto Simón.
