IdentificationTextblock measures 7 12/16" X 5 4/16". Marble cover boards with quarter leather in corners and spine. Spine is leather with five spine bands. Gilt on front and back borders and along spine. Endpapers are marbled. First four pages are blank, followed by green title page, then page with title only, then second title page. 225 pages of text, followed by three blank pages, followed by advertisement for "Theatre D'Edmond Rostand," followed by three blank pages, followed by marbled endpapers. Condition: 1. Front board marbled material is still bright, with some fading. Gilt on cover boards is still bright, as is the gilt on spine cover. Five spine bands are rubbed. 2. Both front and back marbled cover boards are detached. Spine cover is still attached to front board, but is detached from back board. 3. Marbled endpapers are clean.4. First four pages (blank pages) as well as the three blank pages after page 225 are loose, significantly toned and are brittle. Previous owners inscription on flyleaf. 5. Beginning with first title page up to an including the last page of copy (page 225) are still attached to binding. Paper is toned around borders, are somewhat fragile, but not as brittle as the blank pages mentioned in #4 above. In fact, some gloss can still be found on many of the pages. Gutters are showing between pages, and some pages are very close to detaching. 6. Back cover board has rubbing and fraying along all edges, and is encroaching into leather quarters. While the covers are detached and the front blank papers are loose, the fact that the actual body of the play is still intact and pages are still flexible, this copy could be a good candidate for a recovering.
