Quote from the artist. “Out in Makena, where the road along the water is not much more than sandy lava, there is a house where we once stayed. For two weeks I did little else but soak up the surroundings. My mornings consisted of early walks through Makena's tranquility. Every day I made new discoveries. Every hour in that environment I found new things to paint, new ideas to depict in colors slightly different from my Upcountry palette. That stay in Makena generated more paintings than any other time in my life as an artist. When I look back now and think of why it was so inspirational to me, I know instantly. There are very few things as meditative as a stroll through the balmy stillness of early morning in Makena.” The picture is perfect but a see a discoloring at the bottom of the matting up against the frame.
