Our price for this photo poster is $149 We are delighted to offer this rarely seen Cuban poster that reproduces a 1958 photo of two of the most famous women from the Cuban revolution: CELIA SANCHEZ (1920-1980) and VILMA ESPIN (1930-2007). They are pictured in a mountain hideaway in eastern Cuba, where the Cuban revolution was born. Educated in the United States at MIT, where she studied chemical engineering, VILMA ESPIN helped organize Fidel Castro's underground movement in the 1950s, working as a spy. Espin went on to assume many roles in Fidel Castro's government. She was married to Raul Castro (Fidel's younger brother) from 1959 until her death in 2007. She is pictured on the right side of the photo. CELIA SANCHEZ has been called the first female guerilla of the Cuban revolution. After the revolution triumphed in 1959, she became an influential Cuban politician, archivist and close colleague of Fidel Castro. This photo was taken by one of the most prominent Spanish photojournalists of the 20th century, Enrique Meneses (1929-2013), who was known for his intimate photos of Cuban revolutionaries in their mountain hideouts in the 1950s, as well for as his photos of luminaries such as Bob Dylan, Muhammad Ali, Salvador Dali, Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Luther King, for Paris Match magazine. The glossy poster in this listing, which measures approximately 20 by 13.5 inches (51 by 34 cm), was created by Cuba's cultural ministry as part of a portfolio that reproduced some of the most famous photos of the Cuban revolution. A short biography of Enrique Meneses was printed on the back of the poster. The poster is undated, but we believe it was created in the past decade. Overall condition of this poster is good.
