The date stamp on the barrel support is 2 7 which means the manufacture date is likely February 1967. The mechanics on this 760 are great. It pumps, holds air and shoots well. The barrel and pump tube are good with no rust or pitting. The wood forearm is very good. The stock has some minor wear on the butt end, several dings and some wear around the grip. The receiver is better than I would expect for a 57 year old "toy" but it does have a few scratches and small chips. Highly collectable 57+ year old Air Gun. Fully Functional. Strong shooter. Exhaust Valve and Pump Piston have been rebuilt. Seals have been replaced. This is an early 760 that was capable of being pumped up to 25 times. As you can see on the pictured page from the INCLUDED Owners Manual. This is the first of the first. When Crosman first released the 760 the stock had a square shaped groove (termed the square tang) that the receiver locked into to prevent twisting of the stock. After the first year (or so) Crosman reversed the configuration so that the wood stock had a rounded protrusion (round tang) that slotted into the receiver. THE MYSTERY OF THE SQUARE TANG: No one is sure why Crosman made the change so early in the production run. My theory is that Crosman realized cutting a slot into the wood weakened the stock and they reversed the process so the stock would not fail. Feel free to contact me for questions or discussion.
