Description: English Georgian sterling silver salver, 1934. Molded piecrust rim and three capped volute scroll supports. In well is mounted horseshoe and engraved phrase; "Plate / Worn by / Omaha / bred and owned by / William Woodward, Esq. / winner of / The Kentucky Derby Preakness / and / Belmont Stakes / The / Triple Crown". Omaha was a Depression-era racing horse, who won the Triple Crown in 1935. The following year he was shipped to England, where he competed at Ascot, coming in second. Shortly afterwards, he withdrew from racing, due to lameness, and enjoyed a long and productive second career at a stud farm. Fully marked including maker's stamp (Crichton Brothers) and London assay stamp. Overall dimensions: H 1 3/4 x W 12 1/2 x D 12 1/4 in. Heavy gross weight: 33.8 troy ounces. #CA639
