Working for Sam Phillips at Sun Records, he recorded "It Was Only Make Believe," and he sounded so much Like Elvis, the rumors circulated that it WAS Elvis singing that song under the pseudonym of "Conway Twitty," so the song sold 4 million copies and Conway's career was off and running. But then he became a Country Legend and died in 1993 at the age of 60. No question that his most memorable song was "Hello Darlin' " and my dad, who made tens of thousands of GOLD & PLATINUM award records for the big labels on Music Row for five decades was ordered by DECCA to make 300 GOLD records when RIAA certified the Hello Darlin' album "Gold" on May 15, 1972. As always, he made more than the order for extras which were always needed by both the record label and the artist who ordered them later. When he passed away last year, I inherited his workshop and the hundreds of "extras," which included GOLD & PLATINUM award records I've listed on ebay since October, 2014. I continue to find more and more as I go through his voluminous inventory of posters, artwork, country memorabilia and recordings. I recently found hand-signed 8 X 10 photos he purchased at Conway's estate auction after his death and just listed those (please follow my listings at davestraub47) and in the same collection, found several "Hello Darlin' " Gold records that had never been taken out of the shipping boxes. Some have the pictured blue backgrounds and others have red backgrounds (for whatever reason). I will display the red background ones shortly but they are identical except they have red-glittered material where you see blue in these photos, including the background material. A COA (Certificate of Authenticity) comes with, and it can be personalized with a name if you prefer - or just generic if you would like to resell it, display it or leave it to an heir. I only have a few and I haven't been able to locate any elsewhere on the Internet or through my Nashville contacts (which are extensive due to my father's involvement in the industry for so many years). These awards are re-framed but otherwise original and authentic - made in 1972, 44 years ago. THIS Conway should probably be selling for more like $500, but I have so many artists and so many awards, I'm trying to liquidate them as quickly as possible.
