Description: Conditional Immortality: Biblical Proof of Annihilation A growing number of well-known Christian leaders, such as Dr. David R. Reagan, John R. Stott, Greg Boyd, Roger Forster (co-founder of the March for Jesus events), Philip Hughes, Michael Green, Stephen Travis, and Clark Pinnock have declared support for part, or all, of the biblical doctrine of "conditional immortality." Even the British Bible translator, William Tyndale, also defended Conditional Immortality during his lifetime. Also, the very well respected scholar F.F. Bruce states, "Eternal conscious torment is incompatible with the revealed character of God" so he chose to write the forward to an excellent evangelical book on this topic called, "The Fire that Consumes" by Edward Fudge. While some call it annihilationism, simply stated, "Conditional Immortality" is the biblical belief that the "immortality" of the soul is not inherent (Greek philosophers thinking) but conditional (Biblical thinking) upon receiving the gift of everlasting life through faith in Jesus. Consider just one NT passage about God "who can destroy both body and soul in hell" (Matthew 10:28) as Jesus tells us. This book shows many more such passages plainly listed and not taken out of context. __________________What others have said about this book:_________________ The author has served us well by biblically supporting the doctrine of Conditional Immortality. (As one who grew up in a fundamentalist background there was only one view of hell and believers seemed to love the idea of sinners burning forever.) As a pastor and theologian, time, biblical study, and the understanding of Old and New Testament passages has given me the opportunity to truly study the texts and the understand of Sheol and heaven. Over the years (and in reading the book by Edward Fudge) I came to the true realization that eternal torment is inconsistent with God's very nature, inconsistent with Scripture, and inconsistent with other doctrines. The author has laid many good arguments and a good analysis of the texts involved. The book would have been much better with an editor as the author tends to repeat himself and a few of his arguments (mainly the ones taken from life on earth like capital punishment, lawyers, etc) are very weak arguments from a temporal point of view...... Overall, it is a very good read and his list of website reading material is second to none.======================= It's my goldilocks book" Not too detailed and not too intellectually lacking. It's "just right". ======================= If this is your first book about Conditional Immortality, it's a competent overview, if a bit tendentious. Author quotes Boyd and Fudge, whose best books on this topic are very long, so this slender volume is a useful contribution.======================= It's a small, easy read. Good overview of the subject from a logical and scriptural point of view. Edward Fudge's book is much larger and more polished, dealing more extensively with the history of this subject. For someone who just needs a little book, who might be put off by a larger volume, this would be good. The formatting leaves somewhat to be desired. It is evidently a self-published book where information, not formatting, was the goal. I do recommend it and applaud the author for putting it out. It was an easy read though, and most would not be intimidated by it. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
