Description We are proud to be able to offer a fine complete 4 volume set of the Abbeville edition The Birds Of America by John James Audubon. This is a massive work which contains all 435 plates collectively weighing over 300#. In 1985, to commemorate the 200th birthday anniversary of John James Audubon, the National Audubon Society together with the Abbeville Press issued a complete facsimile edition of the double elephant folio (DEF) which was originally published between 1827-39. This Birds of America edition employed a very fine quality color offset lithography technique. This facsimile Abbeville edition set of John James Audubons Birds of America was produced from the original National Audubon Society's original double elephant folio set. Only a total of 350 sets were published and the number of complete intact sets presently is much smaller as the individual plate value is great. All 435 prints in the 4 volumes are present and each carries the Audubon Society Abbeville Press water mark. Printed and published in Japan on watermarked Mohawk Superfine, which is an acid-free paper made exclusively for this edition. The watermark runs down the outside edge of each print and bears the Audubon Society's name, a little bird image and Abbeville Press and is about one inch high and runs the length of the paper. There is a strong after market demand for the individual plates from this work and they routinely sell for anywhere between $75 to over $2000 per plate. This makes a complete intact set such as this a great value as they simply do not exist to any extent. Thank you for looking and please be sure and look at our other auctions for other fine works by Audubon from the first as well as the 1860 editions of the Birds Of America. We also have other architectural, natural history plates as well as original maps, all guaranteed original. We do not use the eBay check-out system for invoicing so it is not necessary to email us at auction end. You will receive an email from Paypal letting you know the particular payment options available to you. We will also send you an email summarizing your winning bids along with one combined postal charge. We will email you this summary within 24 hours after the auction's end.
