Studied at the Saratov Art College (1946–1948). In 1954 he graduated from the State Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR named after Teodor Zalkalns in Riga (teacher - P.K. Lyubomudrov). He taught at the Latvian Academy of Arts (1954–1956).
