Description: Our item #1905-5226-5000 You gotta have Passion! And I'm finding a Lot for this Old COLBURN VBM The COLBURN Is Coming To Life! That first pic of the Ways is about one hour's Work, I'm Liking What I See!!! All I Can Say Is This Machine Is In Very Good Mechanical Shape!!! I believe the Ways are cleaning up to where it will be close to holding the Tollerances it did!!! The Day It Left The Factory!!! I will keep working on it! Just a Note: I am not a Dealer just an Old School Machinist that likes and appreciates old well built machinery. Well I got the Ways all cleaned up, I have to say they are Truly in quite Remarkable shape!!! Both Boring Rams Flacked surfaces look almost like New! I believe those to be the most important wear surfaces on the Machine, And provide it's most important function Boring!!! If you are looking for a Reasonably! Priced Machine that isn't overly complicated both mechanically and electronically and can still hold Tollerances!!! This may be the Machine for you! There's a Lot of life left in the Gib adjustments! Just look at the left Ram I would say the Gibs are at the beginning of there adjustment capabilities possibly never adjusted down, and the more frequently used Ram on the right has been adjusted down about 1/3rd of there adjustment! Meaning the Machine may have been run only limited. Other's typically don't give you close up picture's of there Ways, Why? Because they are nothing to write home about, Meaning there ability to hold Tollerances are Qustionable! Any repairs can be both Extensive! and Expensive!!! One can reasonably change out some gears, clutch or a shaft ect. But worn Ways not good! Look closely at the Ways Folks!!! Anyone can buy an inexpensive abused for years Boat Anchor that will nickel and dime you to death and Not hold size Day One! This Machine will hold size with the best of them!!! The more I work on the Machine the more I am impressed with it's existing overall condition! It has just sat idle for many years! And primarily just dirty. You would be very hard pressed to find anything beat on and or abused on this Machine!!! And thats A Fact Folks!!! It appears some real Old School Machinist Operated it! COLBURN 42" Vertical Boring Mill, 37" Chuck, 37" Under Rail, Dual Swivel Rams tilt 45 and have 30" of travel, 10hp Main Motor (12) Speed's 3.6 to 120rpm, (12) Feed's .5 to 24mm Per Rev. Machine weight approx. 25,000 lbs. There is a Practical Machinist Blog on Colburn's Interesting with many Specification's noted, Guessing it was manufactured around 1950, It's in French with Metric Lufkin Rule's, Guessing it was Manufactured for the Canadian market, The Speed and Feed Name Plates are in great shape, I have had all (4) motor's under power, And have several Running Video's of it's function's, the Chuck Rotating sounded good and the Brake work's as expected, This Machine is quite Complete!!! Basically no missing parts that I am aware of aside from the mentioned items below, I have found one round plastic ball knob missing, a simple flat head screw holding a Lufkin Rule missing, one of about 100 grease Zerk's broken, some BX flexable electric line clamps are missing, and a Square Head Tool Post screw is missing, Thats it! Remarkable!!! No Broken Handles or Cracked Casting's, I do have the drive motor cast belt guard. I am in the process of adding an Oil Pump to supply the Chuck Gearbox bearings gravity feed oilers, it was missing when I obtained the Machine. Remanufactured!? and lightly used since, Actually it may have never been Remanufactured!!! It's in such good overall Mechanical Shape, it may have just had limited use!? Mechanically I would say this machine has Many more Decades!!! of productive life left in it. Electrically this Machine is Very Basic! 230V 3 phase It is Fused at 45 amp And completely functional, Give this machine some good Elbow Grease, Mineral Spirits, and Scotch Bright pads, to Tackle the Way's, This Machine Will Shine Above Anything Similarly Priced!!! I Hope you find what your looking for! Thanks for looking!!! Check out our other quality unique item's, at our eBay store.
