CIRCA 1915 RHC # 1582 READING HARDWARE MORTISE LOCK w/CYLINDER & KEYS (12082) Vintage: circa 1900 -1930: READING HARDWARE, works fine, entry mortise lock with with a new Superior cylinder lock and two keys. This is the type that was made for a thumb latch on the outside of the door and a turn knob on the inside of the door. The lock is reversible. Heavy nickel plated brass faceplate with body of the lock clearly maker marked RHC one of America's many high quality manufacturers of builder's hardware during the second half of the 19th Century and early 20th Century. Dimensions as follows: Brass front plate measures 8 1/4" long, 1 1/4" wide, 3/16" thick. The back set (the measurement from the front edge of the brass faceplate to the center of the door knob hole) is 2 1/2". Box is 3 9/16" deep from the front edge of the brass face plate and the box is 5 7/8" top to bottom. Screws are on 7 1/8" centers. The lock is made for a thumb latch operated entry handle on the outside and for a turn knob on the inside of the door. Thumb Turn Knob: A 3/16" square brass hole is provided to accommodate the thumb turn knob. If you are simply replacing the lock, you may have everything you need. However, if you need a thumb turn knob, a 1/2 knob post or any other items for the lock set, please let us know. Very clean inside and out, no rust, functions very well, heavy duty and with keys!
