The thinly molded Chinese porcelain teacup and divided saucer have been decorated in a thousand butterfly pattern. The white base glaze is very white with no blue tint. The enamel colors are bright and fresh looking. Gilt was used on the mouth rims and as a background for the butterflies. The saucer has an unglazed double foot with some kiln grit adhering. An iron red stamped mark on the saucer base reads “CHINA” in a cartouche. MEASUREMENTS Saucer – 8 ½” (21.6 cm) long x 4 ¾” (12.1 cm) wide x 1” (2.5 cm) tall Cup – 3 ½” (8.9 cm) long x 3” (7.6 cm) diameter x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) tall. Weighs 11.4 oz (325 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The enamels look like the piece was never used.
