Description: Up for bid is a letter of appreciation from A.G. Johnson, trainmaster, to several employees of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway. The one-page typewritten letter was sent to engineer E. Beard, engine foreman D.C. Townsend, switchman C.B. Tigher, switchman R. Graves and fireman L.E. Storey, presumably all of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The letter, dated December 15, 1945, thanks the men for their assistance in the handling of a hospital train, filled with wounded soldiers, that had stopped on the main line due to a bursted steam pipe. The letter comes with its original envelope, which was addressed to Beard. These items are in very good condition, with normal mailing folds.
