Here we have a poster created from the famous "Attention Workingman" flyer which called for a mass meeting to denounce the activities of the Chicago Police after the initial violence on the previous day. This rally would ultimately spark the "Haymarket Affair", during which a riot and violence would commence following the explosion of a bomb during the demonstration. There were two notices for this demonstration, with the first calling for workers to "arm" themselves and appear in full force. The provocative language turned off the main speaker, August Spies, and was removed for a subsequent flier. Only a couple of hundred of the original, first version, managed to survive. This is our "version 1" with the "arm yourselves" language from the first printing.
